A total starts the conversation
A plausible production total can still be difficult to defend. A reading may arrive after cutoff, a correction factor may change, or an estimate may replace an invalid test. When decisions live in separate files, the team must reconstruct the story every time someone asks a question.
Allocation lineage connects the source quantity, original unit, method, effective configuration and run version to the result. A dispute becomes a review of identifiable evidence rather than a search for the right spreadsheet.
Follow the transformations
Well estimates, corrected custody quantities, terminal receipts and lifted volumes need not be identical. Inventory movements, measurement bases and approved adjustments explain legitimate differences. Traceability means that transformations are visible and the appropriate balances close.
Our reference scenario starts with 10,000 observed barrels and an illustrative 0.9800 correction factor, giving 9,800 corrected barrels. A terminal with 1,000 barrels of opening stock lifts 9,600 and retains 1,200. The quantities have different roles, yet the inventory arithmetic reconciles.
Make lineage an acceptance test
Choose a reported quantity. Identify its source, reproduce its calculation and explain what a subsequent correction changes. Preserve the original closed result and review the revised version separately.
For HCF360, establish whether engineering, accounting and commercial reviewers can inspect the same evidence without re-keying it. Measure investigation effort and unexplained exceptions during a pilot.
The value to establish
Shorter investigations, clearer partner discussions and a close that can be reproduced.
